IPL 2019 Schedule: Indian Premier League 12 to be held from March 29 to May 19

IPL 2019 Schedule

The 11th edition of Indian Premier League is going on right now. IPL 2019 kicked off on April 7 at Wankhede Stadium between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings while the final will take place on May 27 at Wankhede.
However, BCCI has decided the dates for the next season already.
The 12th edition of the Indian Premier League will be held from March 29, 2019 to May 19, 2019.
“The 2019 IPL will be played between March 29 and May 19," A BCCI official told PTI.
IPL 2019 will be followed by the 50-over Cricket World Cup. The 2019 World Cup will be held in the UK from May 30 to July 14.
India are scheduled to begin the ICC World Cup 2019 campaign against South Africa on June 5 while they will face arch-rivals Pakistan on June 16 at Old Trafford.
India have never lost to Pakistan in World Cup matches. India and Pakistan last met in World Cup match back in 2015 where India emerged victorious. They last played against each other in ICC Champions Trophy 2017 final. Pakistan defeated India in this encounter to lift the Champions Trophy for the first time.
"This is the first time Indo-Pak match won't be a starting affair. Since the format will be a round robin affair (all teams playing each other like 1992)," the official added.
The format for the group stage is to have all ten teams play each other in a single group. This means a total of 45 matches will be played with each team playing a total of nine matches. The top four teams from the group will then progress to the knockout stage. A similar format was previously used in the 1992 Cricket World Cup.
The knockout stage will see two semi-finals, with the winners of each progressing to the final at Lord's Cricket Ground.
The final fixture list is expected to be announced after the completion of ICC meeting in Kolkata.

Brad Hogg Impressed With Indian Batsmen's Technique vs Spinners

Chennai: Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) Australian spinner Brad Hogg on Wednesday said he enjoys bowling against Indian batsmen who test the mettle of spinners owing to their traditionally superior technique against tweakers. (Complete coverage of Indian Premier League 2015)

"I really enjoy bowling to Indian batsmen because they really test your craft. In the last 20-30 years there hasn't been an Australian spinner who has come here and dominated the batsmen," Hogg was quoted as saying by iplt20.com.

"It is good to test your skills against the best and that is why you play the game."

His team, KKR, were beaten by 2 runs by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in an Indian Premier League (IPL) match here on Tuesday.

When asked if bowling in powerplay is tougher than in the slog overs, he said, "I am not sure what it tougher, each scenario has a different set of challenges. It depends on what kind of wicket there is."

"This one was conducive to spin and I got away with it. Sometimes when you bowl in the first six overs, the batsman takes extra risk and you can get rewarded. It can also damage your bowling figures. One common factor in both scenarios is keeping your nerve," the 44-year-old added.

When he took the field in Chennai for KKR, at 44 years and 81 days, Brad Hogg became the oldest cricketer to play in the IPL.

"It is amazing to be back playing in the IPL. I am just fortunate to be still playing at my age. I have had a stop-start career and it has been a bit of a fairytale to still keep going," he said.

"My teammates at KKR are a great bunch of blokes and I am enjoying being a part of it all."

He termed his tryst with KKR an enriching experience.

"We want to ensure that we do the right thing on the field as players but we also want to get involved in the culture and see what India is all about. I have been fortunate to be part of the Kolkata franchise and see what life is like in the Bengal region," he concluded.

Mahendra Singh Dhoni achieved a personal milestone of completing fifty catches as a wicketkeeper in the Indian Premier League in Chennai Super Kings' two-run win over Kolkata Knight Riders at MA Chidambram Stadium in Chepauk on Tuesday. Dhoni is only the third keeper after Dinesh Karthik and Adam Gilchrist to have this rare distinction in the IPL.(Match Report | Scorecard | Highlights)

Chennai also became the first team to win 75 games in the IPL, out of a total 122 matches. Dhoni has led them in 119 of which he has won 74, the most by any captain in the tournament. In addition to this 'Captain Cool' has 27 wins in 60 Tests, 100 wins in 178 ODIs, 26 victories out of 49 in T20Is and 115 in 192 T20 matches. He recently quit Test cricket during India's tour of Australia in December.(Gambhir Slams Batsmen)

Chennai's win also means that they have 10-5 win-loss record in 15 IPL games against Kolkata. The two-run win margin is their narrowest against Kolkata - they had beaten KKR by two runs in Chennai on April 8, 2011.(Dhoni All Praise for Team's Fielding)

Here are some of the other statistical highlights from the match:('Wanted to do Something Special With the Ball')

# Chennai have recorded three wins by two runs or less in the IPL - their narrowest in terms of runs being by one run vs Delhi Daredevils at Chennai on April 9, 2015.

# Gautam Gambhir is the first recognised batsman to register eleven ducks in the IPL. Gambhir has equalled an unwanted IPL record for most ducks, held by Harbhajan Singh.

# The second place is shared by Piyush Chawla, Amit Mishra and Manish Pandey - ten ducks each in the IPL.

# Four batsmen have recorded ducks in Kolkata's innings for the first time in the IPL.

Bermuda Cricketer Facing Heroin Charges Withdraws From US Tournament

Hamilton, Bermuda: A leading cricketer facing heroin charges has withdrawn from the Bermuda squad announced earlier this month for a four-country Twenty20 tournament in the United States.

The Bermuda Cricket Board (BCB) announced on Tuesday that Fiqre Crockwell has pulled out of the ICC Americas Division One Twenty20 qualifiers in Indianapolis set for May 2-11 after questions were raised about his inclusion in the squad, reports CMC.

No reason for 29-year-old Crockwell's withdrawal was given.

Crockwell, who took part in a warm-up tour of Jamaica two weeks ago, is to stand trial on May 27 to face charges of possession of heroin with intent to supply.

He has denied the charges.

Bermuda have also lost pace bowler Malachi Jones because of injury for the US trip.

Crockwell and Jones have been replaced by Jason Anderson and Jacobi Robinson at the tournament, which features the US, Canada, Suriname and Bermuda.

BCB president Lloyd Fray said: "It is disappointing Fiqre and Malachi are unable to represent Bermuda at this tournament but we are fortunate that we are able to replace them with two highly experienced international cricketers."

IPL 8, RCB vs RR Live Cricket Score: Rajasthan Royals Eye Revenge vs Gritty Bangalore

Rajasthan Royals are placed second in the IPL 2015 points table. While recent results may have brought the team down a bit, their opponents are on a high. With two consecutive wins, Royal Challengers Bangalore are now looking for a hat-trick and will look to further improve from their fourth place in the table. Live updates from the match here:

Hosts Bangalore have picked themselves up from the bottom-half of the points table and are counting on momentum to further their progress. With wins against Rajasthan and Delhi Daredevils, the team has finally begun showing signs of life. Buoyed by the ruthless bowling of Mitchell Starc - three wickets each in the last two matches, the team has blunted opposition batsmen with clinical precision. The top-three batsmen - Chris Gayle, Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers - have also begun combining well.

The team would be hoping for a repeat of their performance against Rajasthan in Ahmedabad. Shane Watson's side were walloped by nine wickets in a match that greatly boosted morale in the Bangalore camp.

Rajasthan though are the most dangerous when the chips are down. And chips are indeed down. Having lost two matches on the trot, the team had to give away its top position when Chennai Super Kings defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on Tuesday. That this comes after five consecutive wins means the pain would be even more real. A team that has Ajinkya Rahane and Steve Smith shouldering the batting responsibility though can never be too far from a comeback.

Rahane is the leading run-getter this season while Smith has been very consistent. Captain Watson also continues to be a very real threat while young Deepak Hooda's strike rate of 208.9 can power the team to a formidable total. The bowling department will once again revolve around Watson, James Faulkner and Pravin Tambe.

The two teams - Bangalore and Rajasthan - may not yet be level on paper but are surely equal in terms of batting and bowling firepower.

IPL 8: Dwayne Bravo Says he Thrives in Pressure Situations

Chennai: A brilliant last over by Dwayne Bravo helped Chennai Super Kings pull off a sensational two-run win over Kolkata Knight riders in their IPL match, and the all-rounder said he likes pressure situations as it brings the best out of him.(Match Report | Scorecard | Highlights)

"We did not bat well tonight. It is good to defend a small total and we proved ourselves despite not doing well with the bat. We have got good fast bowlers and spinners in our team. Obviously, MS (Dhoni) and the entire team looked upto me to finish off the game and that is the way I prepare myself.(Gambhir Slams Batsmen)

"These situations get the best out of me. I always keep my composure as I like these moments. There are few people in the world who actually cope with pressure," said Bravo at the post-match press conference last night.(Dhoni All Praise for Team's Fielding)

Defending a modest target of 135, Bravo was given the ball in the final over with KKR requiring 17 runs to win. He bowled the first three balls without conceding a run, and that enabled the Super Kings to eke out a narrow win.('Wanted to do Something Special With the Ball')

CSK were restricted to 134 for six but Bravo said more than his team's batsmen faltering, it was KKR bowlers who did a good job.

"There was no weakness and there were times when fast bowlers were doing well, we have got 200 runs and above. There are no weaknesses. Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum are best players in the world against short balls. We have to give credit to KKR bowlers.

"I suppose we exposed them as well. It goes both ways. We are a humble team having very good players and respect each other. We did not blow out to post big total but it is important that we won the game," said Bravo.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders spinner Brad Hogg, who came up with a brilliant spell after replacing Sunil Naraine in the team, said the team was disappointed with the absence of the mystery spinner.

There is uncertainty over Naraine's availability as the report of the bio-mechanical tests, which he underwent at the BCCI accredited testing facility, is still awaited.

"All I can say is feeling sorry for Sunil. I think it is disappointing that he has gone away. All of a sudden he has been put on the spot again. It is one of those, as a cricketer, I am not happy with the situation that Sunil and we are in at the moment. He has got a wonderful skill."

At 44, Hogg became the oldest cricketer to play in the IPL and the Australian bowler said he was enjoying his cricket at the moment.

"As far as my role, at the end of the day at my age, I am enjoying my cricket. Very lucky that I have been picked up in the IPL tournament. Had a couple of years here already and to be playing for different franchise and experiencing different parts of India is fantastic. It is no different to any other team that got great bunch of players," he said.

Hogg admitted it was disappointing to lose a close game.

"It is disappointing always to lose such close contests. But at the end of the day, we have to go back and believe in our skills. Everyone has got skills. Everyone talks about form. I am not a believer in form. It is all mental and it is always up there here (in the mind). We have got another five top games in 10 days. I think we just got to believe that our skills are good enough," insisted the Australian.

"It takes a couple of shots for a batsman to turn around and likewise a couple of wickets for a bowler."

On his team not scoring a single boundary between seventh and 17th over, Hogg said, "I think we required 78 runs off 80 balls and we really dug for ourselves. We sort of discussed that. The opposition was dictating the scoreboard for us to slow down. We are going to go out in the next game and play the way we want to play.

"If we win we win, if we lose we lose. That is the nature of the game. You back your potentials and you play better than the opposition, more times than not you win matches."

Hogg was all praise for the Chidambaram stadium pitch.

"The pitch was pretty good. It assisted all. Had a bit of pace and swing and also held up little bit for the spinner. So everyone played a part in the game. Full credit to the curator. I thought, batsmen too had chances to make runs and bowlers had chances of getting wickets. It is one of those nice part of contest," said Hogg.

James Taylor Named England Captain For One-Off ODI Against Ireland

England and Wales Cricket Board have named batsman James Taylor as skipper for one-off one-day international (ODI) against Ireland in absence of regular captain Eoin Morgan, who is in India for Indian Premier League. The match will be played on May 8 at Malahide, Dublin.

England selectors announced an 11-man squad for the Royal London ODI on Tuesday. A number of players will be added to the squad following selection for the third Test against West Indies beginning on May 1.

"James Taylor has played with many of these players with England and England Lions and his experiences leading Notts Outlaws make him an ideal captain to lead a young and dynamic side with Eoin Morgan currently in India at the IPL," National selector James Whitaker said.

"We will add a number of players to the squad once the side for the final Test against West Indies has been selected."

Nottinghamshire batsman Taylor will lead a squad that includes five players yet to be capped for England in any format. Tim Bresnan, who last played in an ODI in March 2014, will be hoping to add to the 84 ODI caps he has already been awarded for England.

"To be given the opportunity to lead your country is a huge honour. There are still some very experienced and talented cricketers in that team who I'd have been delighted to have as my captain, so it is a privilege and one I'm going to relish," Taylor said.

"It's going to be brilliant leading an England team in a one-day international. We know it will be a tough game against Ireland and this match provides a great chance for us all to show we can play a huge role in limited overs cricket in years to come," he added.

Whitaker said the aim is to identify players as England build towards the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019.

"We are starting to identify players we believe can make a real impact in limited overs cricket in the next four years as we build towards the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2019 and these players have a huge opportunity to stake a claim for further opportunities this summer," Whitaker said.

"We are expecting a very competitive match against a talented Ireland side and this fixture gives us a great opportunity to look at players who have performed well in county cricket and for the Lions," he added.

"On behalf of the selectors I would like to congratulate all players on their selection and wish Peter Moores and the side all the very best against Ireland."
